The Nuts and Bolts of something often refers to the working parts or the "how to" about a particular subject. The metaphor takes on a realistic meaning for the graduates of the Georgia Smoke Diver program as it truly becomes the students final exam and Holy Grail. Searching an entire burn building to find a bolt, nut and series of washers in order is the final search drill. In his Nuts and Bolts presentation, Chief Rhodes talks about essential core values of competence, honor, integrity, mental toughness, passion, servant leadership and commitment as cornerstone core values and what each means in the context of being a firefighter and how it relates to your purpose and your why.
